Brenton Jones (JLT Condor) per soli 9 centesimi di secondo deve accontentarsi del secondo posto, con il suo compagno di team Alex Frame terzo. Chris Froome ha chiuso con un distacco di 7 secondi dal compagno di squadra e ha fatto 4 secondi meglio di Esteban Chaves.

Van Poppel è anche il primo leader della corsa australiana.
